We are Kishore and Indrani Matta, food lovers, business partners and founders of Jewel Fine Foods. But the story didn’t start in the food-making business. For many years, Kishore was a captain in the merchant navy and Indrani was a food technologist. When Kishore hung up his captain’s cap, we decided to dedicate ourselves to bringing people together with the food we loved.
Our first restaurant, Jewel of India, opened its doors in 1997 and was quickly booked out weeks in advance.
People seemed to really love our cooking, so we decided to start offering Indian dishes they could eat at home.
In a small one-room factory we began making hand-rolled and hand-filled samosas.
Three years later, we were producing food for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
We had to supply more than 300 tonnes of curry and it was the support of our hardworking team and suppliers that made it happen.
The Melbourne Commonwealth Games followed and we soon signed contracts with prestigious five-star hotels.
Then in 2008 we introduced chilled, ready-to-eat best quality Indian meals into major Australian supermarkets.
We were soon leading this market category and outgrew our small factory, so we built a bigger one in Sydney’s Mascot.
From there we just kept growing, and in 2017 moved into an even bigger, purpose-built factory nearby.
We’re proud of our achievements to date and look forward to looking after more customers from our new factory.
Now, with our hugely talented team and high capacity factory, we’re able to deliver even more high-speed product
innovation to local markets, as well as supply to export markets globally.

We’re very glad to have their capabilities in food innovation, large-scale production, quality assurance and quality improvement.
